This week's birthdays :
Message from the Head of School
Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to share with you the news that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has mandated the return of 100% of students to face to face teaching and learning from Sunday, 30th January, 2022.
In order to facilitate the return and ensure a safe learning environment the following protocols have also been mandated:
All students must conduct a RAT not more than 48 hours prior to the start of school,
the result must be negative,
a parent needs to complete and sign the attached declaration form, and
the child must bring this declaration form to school on the first day of attendance for the week commencing 30.01.2022.
Without this completed declaration form, students cannot be admitted to the campus.
Students will not be allowed to board a school bus without the completed declaration form.
All students Year 10 and above must also display a green Ehteraz application in order to be admitted.
The school hours from Sunday will be according to the following schedule:
School hours will be from 7:00am until 1:00pm.
Work hours for all staff will be from 6:30am until 2:00pm.
Masks must be worn at all times on campus.
As much as possible, staff will be expected to maintain social distance. Staff are asked to ensure students also maintain social distance.
All gates will be open for all students. The system of designated gates according to year groups will not be continued.
Please be advised that the works in the street adjacent to Gate 3 and 4 have necessitated the closure of that street. Diversions are in place. I would appreciate your patience and respectful support of the traffic controllers.
Staff children can be dropped into their buildings after 6.30am. This gives staff 5-10 minutes to reach their own classroom ready to receive students when the gates open at 6.40am.
No staff parents can go to classrooms. Students are confident to enter buildings independently and staff will be available in buildings to greet your child at the building entrance door from 6.35am.
The Procedures for Return of Students who are COVID-Positive are recorded below.
STUDENTS
1-Students who are in close contact with positive classroom colleagues:
Vaccinated = only a negative RAT / PCR result is required. No quarantine period is necessary.
Unvaccinated = 7 days quarantine with testing on the 1st and 6th day or according to MoPH instructions.
2-Students showing a positive result - either PCR or RAT
7 days quarantine until Ehteraz is clear,
if they do not have Ehteraz and are not vaccinated, they need a clearance report from PHCC emailed from nurse to parents about what is needed and any necessary follow-up.
3-Students in close contact with a positive family member living in the same house:
Vaccinated = No quarantine, only a negative PCR/RAT result is needed.
Non-vaccinated = quarantine for 7 days and can return after quarantine with a negative PCR/RAT test.
4-Unvaccinated recovered students will have the same policy as vaccinated but need to show proof of recovery.
STAFF
1-Staff who were positive should finish the 7 days quarantine and must show a Green Ehteraz before returning to school.
2- Staff who were in close contact with a positive case:
Vaccinated-No quarantine only negative RAT test is needed
Unvaccinated - in close contact with positive family member requires 7 days quarantine and a green Ehteraz before return to school along with a negative test.
3-Staff in contact with positive student:
Vaccinated: No quarantine, only negative test is needed
Unvaccinated: No quarantine only negative test
4-Staff with symptoms:
Test in the school clinic and resume duty if generally well and showing a negative result.
5-Home testing is not acceptable as an excuse for absence or proof of negative/positive results. A laboratory report is required for positive/negative results. The school clinic can conduct RAT tests to confirm negative results. Positive results should be confirmed by an official lab report from a recognized health centre.
6-Unvaccinated staff need to do weekly testing ( This will be provided at the school clinic).
I would appreciate your support in adhering to these protocols.
In sum, the return to 100% face to face teaching and learning is an exciting opportunity. It does bring very real risks, but if we adhere to the prescribed protocols I am confident that we can minimise these risks and optimise the learning opportunities for our students.
Regards,
Primary School
We have had another superb week of teaching and learning online that has been made even better by International Week being celebrated at the same time. Get ready to see great online classroom practise with a hint of international learning too. Enjoy!
In KG1, Ms Abeer’s Seals have been traveling to Italy and learning how to cook Italian food.
During international week Ms Mel’s Hummingbirds discussed different nationalities they have in class.
Ms Mel stated that each student presented their own country and everyone showed interest and curiosity when I spoke about Romania and my favourite winter activity. So we decided to make fake snow and build a snowman during our live call.
The little hummingbirds enjoyed mixing all the ingredients and building the snowman. They giggled with joy when their snowman was up. Here are some pictures.
Ms Tara’s class in year 1 have celebrated international week in style. Ms Tara stated, as you know this week is International Week, and one thing that I did was to get students from different countries to send a video postcard to my students. Some of the videos included are from students in Jamaica, Philippines, Canada, and USA.
Please find the link here for the videos if you are interested in seeing them. One of the videos is from Hamza a student in Tara’s class who created a video about his country Egypt to share with his classmates.
Now here’s what Ms Sarra’s class have been learning about. Earlier in the week students were hunting for objects around the house and describing them using creative adjectives.
This
was when Mr Lewis joined our online class and read the story ‘Dogger’ for the
students. They really enjoyed it and were so excited to see him.
For registration the students had to take a picture of themselves with a big smile on their faces.
And
here are just some of Ms Sarra’s students dressed in international attire.
Ms
Tina wanted to share some highlights from her class and they are here.
In Science we have been looking at healthy eating and why different foods are important for us. Adam and Adulrahman E made these posters explaining the different nutrients we get from foods.
Maryam
made this poster explaining the food pyramid.
For
International week we researched facts and phrases from countries all around
the world and shared them on this Padlet.
For
math this week we have looked at partitioning with regrouping. Kenda and Dana
worked together in a breakout room to solve this equation. Together, they
decided to use a number line to solve the tens equation and had to decide
together where to borrow a number from.
This
week we started writing fantasy stories. Some of the students in 4-6 wanted to
share what they had written with their classmates and get feedback, so we used
our Q&A time to have breakout rooms and in small groups those that wanted
to, took turns to share their screens and stories so far. Those listening then
offered helpful suggestions and asked questions to help edit the stories.
In
Ms Nataliya’s year 5 class for International Week they greeted each other in
different languages.
They
completed a Kahoot about different countries.
Two
class members sang a wonderful Irish song.
Mr
Lewis read an English legend.
Finally,
they also completed some non chronological reports. Please see Lana Hanbola’s
example below. Great stuff!
Ms
Sam wanted to share some learning from last week that her class really enjoyed.
She stated that her students have been looking at filters and they had to make
a poster to present to the class on Flipgrid. Shevery much enjoyed this one
from Hala. Check it out here.
